About the Session
Often times when we submit proposals and get rejected without any explanation we get angry and are left frustrated. There are many reasons why proposals get rejected. One of these reasons is that we submit concepts that don’t give a sense of what the story will be.     


About Ayanda
Ayanda Halimana is a South African Storyteller who has written, Head Written, Script and Story Edited a number of award-nominated TV Dramas and Films. She is a Workshop Facilitator, Screen Writing Mentor, and actively Writes and is also a Creative Producer. Her most recent work has achieved the highest number of ratings to date in SA for Series broadcast on SABC 1; both during the show’s premiere season and on the re-run in May/June 2020.

Topics include: Story as a blue-print for our relationship to reality; learning from fiction; designing stories that shift consciousness; the relationship between our ability as storytellers and our personal journeys through life; transcending our storytelling limitations through personal development; the mystery and magic of archetypes. 

About Gavin
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Gavin Sher M.A. (40) is a well-rounded filmmaker and entrepreneur, who has specialized in screenwriting and story development since 2012.

He has a wide-ranging background and a hunger for knowledge that has yielded experience, insight, and understanding into most aspects of life.  Gavin thoroughly enjoys positive collaboration and before specializing in screenplay, he worked in many different roles in the South African film industry, from performance to producing and much in between, in order to learn the business and the craft from as many angles as possible.

A full member of the Writer’s Guild Of South Africa, Gavin has worked as a head-writer and editor on television series for local broadcasters, including SABC and E-TV.  -Gavin also serves as a script editor for South Africa's National Film and Video Foundation and he is often invited to sit on the NFVF panel that assigns national funding for the development and production of feature films and television in SA. 

In his own capacity, Gavin is now an award-winning writer who has written and assisted in the development of a number of independent feature films and television series.
