WGSA INDIGENOUS SCREENWRITING PROGRAMME

The Writers Guild of South Africa (WGSA) in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has developed a screenwriting programme for emerging screenwriters, which has been translated into all South African official languages.

The programme covers the following main areas:

  • Screenwriting is a Job
  • Script
  • Story
  • Structure

The programme is practical and the intended outcome is that each participant will complete a short film script over the two-and-a-half day programme.

Refreshments are served on all 3 days, and a light lunch on the 2 full days.

The programme is FREE to WGSA members.

To avoid dissappointment, make your booking NOW.  Due to Covid regulations we can only accommodate 10 seats per group.

Bookings close 48 hours before the session

WANT TO BE FOUND BY PRODUCERS?

At the beginning of August this year, the WGSA launched their latest tool for empowering performance writers, the ULTIMATE MEMBER service.

What is an Ultimate Member?
All our members are to us ultimate, so the service is for all our members whether you are just starting out as a student / aspiring screenwriter who joined as candidate, or an established, seasoned performance writer.

How does it empower performance writers?
By making them visible to people looking for writers, whether it is for film, television, stage, radio or games. If you have written for performances, or want to, then this is where people can go to find you. This is your stage, your platform, your spotlight. Producers, directors, story tellers, you name it. Anyone around the world will be able to search for writers and find you on our website. It is a free service to the public, and included in our membership benefits, so it's a service at no extra costs to anyone.

Having a profile in the website of a writers guild also help because it shows that you are a member, which means you will conduct yourself professionally and at the same time you're backed by the guild if problems should arise.

After joining the WGSA, how is the profile created and updated?
You are the only one who can create your profile and keep it updated. The system has been designed to be easily completed and pictures and documents, like your CV, to your profile, and at the same time you agree not to publish any false or inaccurate information. You also choose which information you want to have publisized, for instance, most people don't want to put in their physical addresses when they work from home, so you don't fill that in (we do recommend, though, that you say in which province you are based).

Tip: before completing your profile, have some pictures ready to choose from, and update your CV, and scanned copies of all the other documents required. That way, filling in the sections will be quick and easy.

HOW TO EDIT YOUR PROFILE

1.  When you join the WGSA, you receive an email welcoming you, as well as the following
     email:

2. On the WGSA website, click on "Login" at the top righthand side of the page.
